Ajinkya Rahane couldn't hold back his emotions while bidding farewell to international cricket. 🥺

Ajinkya Rahane, one of Indian cricket’s most understated performers and the architect of one of its greatest overseas triumphs, called time on his international career on Thursday (July 30, 2026), bringing the curtains down on a prolonged journey defined more by resilience than fanfare.

The 38-year-old announced his retirement from international cricket and all formats through a video posted on social media.

One of the most underrated cricketers, and the man who led India to its greatest ever overseas Test series win Ajinkya Rahane. 

Calm, Solid. Kabhi shor nahi kiya, aur apna best karta raha.

Just like against SA in Delhi ,2015 after a wonderful first innings, may you have a great second innings, Ajinkya.

"For five years, he scored in virtually every match in domestic cricket and literally broke the door down. Still, Ajinkya Rahane had to endure a six-year wait since making his First Class debut to earn the Test cap. The limited overs' caps had been earned earlier, but he belonged to perhaps the last generation of Indian cricketers who valued the Test cap the most.

There was a time when the likes of Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma would sing "mera number kab aayega" together! 

His numbers in international cricket do not really reflect his contribution and worth to India's Test team. Just like his debut, his retirement announcement may have been a tad delayed but Rahane continued to showcase his character of a fighter. 

For a cricketer who rarely sought the spotlight, Rahane leaves behind a legacy that extends well beyond numbers — one built on dignity, selflessness and the ability to stand tallest when Indian cricket needed him the most."

Veteran Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a career spanning nearly two decades.

Rahane confirmed his decision through an emotional video shared on Instagram, saying he felt the time was right to move on from international cricket.
