With shades of David Warner and Matthew Hayden before him, Travis Head both demoralised a briefly reinvigorated England and added a new string to his attacking bow during his magnificent 142no: that of third-innings enforcer. 

England had trailed by 85 at the end of the first innings, after some excellent rearguard resistance 🙌

England are all out for 286 after a strong partnership between Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer.

England trail Australia by 158 with just two wickets remaining.

Australia managed to take eight wickets on a scorching hot day in Adelaide, but Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes are showing real fight.

Captain Ben Stokes has played a patient yet valuable knock of 45 off 151 balls, while Jofra Archer has shown positive intent with a 30 off 48 deliveries. 👏🏼

The next lowest is also Stokes - the 50 in Brisbane where he was dismissed two balls later.

A hometown ton for Alex Carey, and brilliant return from late inclusion Usman Khawaja, save Australia after some questionable early exits.

Snicko's role in giving the Australia keeper-batter not out caused major controversy on day one at Adelaide.

Later : The company that owns Snicko admitted an "operator error" led to Alex Carey being wrongly given not out for caught behind against England. 😳

Carey, who was on 72 at the time, went on to make 106.

Looking at the pitch, England may be pretty happy having the hosts eight down after day one.

The last time England was down under, a positive Covid test for Travis Head catapulted Khawaja back into the side - earning a place he would hold for the next four years.
