Indian pacers lethal , penetrative - restrict England to 183
What a performance by Indian pace quartet - England bowled out for 183 in 66th over. It`s a start of a fresh series. And the day one fully belonged to India. Thanks to some excellent bowling by Jaspreet Bumrah and Mohammed Shami very well supported by Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj.
England won the toss and elected to bat. Bumrah struck on the fifth ball. Burns 0.Siraj removed Crowley in 21st over 42/2 - with second review in the same over in spite of loosing first. Thanks to Rishabh Pant`s insistence. Shami was troubling everyone with his line and length struck to remove Sibley 18 - 66/3 , just after lunch. Ever classical Joe Root steadied the ship with Bairstow with partnership up to 138 and England started looking bit comfortable. But Shami ,relentless throughout trapped Bairstow on 29 at the stroke of tea - 138/4. Struck in the same over immediately after tea , removing Lawrence 138/5.Dangerous Butler failed to score against excellent Bumrah , Shami and perished on 18th ball caught behind to Bumrah. Shardul Thakur trapped Joe Root on 64 -155/7, followed by Robinson immediately after 3 balls - 155/8. Sam Curran not out 27 took England to 183 , before boom boom Bumrah`s two deadly yorkers were too hot to handle for Broad and Anderson. England collapsed from 138/3 to 183/10. Loosing 6 wickets after tea. Indian bowlers learning from WTC Final match mistakes , kept better line and length pitching further near the batsmen, to utilise continuously swinging Dukes` ball. Team selection resting Ishant Sharma and R Ashwin was justified by Shardul and Siraj`s good performance . India opted for Jadeja as only spinner, considering his better batting form.
Indian openers Rohit Sharma and K L Rahul played out the rest of the day, without much difficulty . 21 after 13 overs, 162 behind. Now along with these two it`s up to Virat, Pujara, Rahane and Pant to ensure to capitalise on excellent display by Indian bowlers.
Can Indian batsmen apply themselves on second day to get the upper hand with some good show, would be very interesting to see.
